With a focus on change itself, BUT, I TRANSITION is dedicated to modification, deviation and rearrangement. Originally intended as a photographic series, questions of gender, dimension and alignment shift into performative reflections on physicality. In order to develop mental spaces about the physical, independent of the human physique, BUT, I TRANSITION also works with the installation of objects that grow and multiply in the field of tension between abstract and essential forms, in order to simulate an idea of the pre-political body.
A questioning of the body is directly linked to reflections on constructed structures and spaces that shape understanding and give expression. Spaces have to be created, occupied and left to enable a process of reclaiming. Metaphorically, the green screen becomes a placeholder for variable background systems and thus marks the timing of entering and exiting, as well as conditions for the technological fluidity of the image.
This system of works is deeply related and to be described as a referential kinship. BUT, I TRANSITION thus articulates itself as a transformative translation loop in which photographs relate to performative means, space is translated into form, a frame mimics a reflection, and performance understands the body as sculptural material.
